Providing Creative Feedback

via email and/or frame.io

Sharing feedback via email or frame.oi comments is required and maintains valuable project history, minimizes errors, and saves time. With project managers and designers typically juggling many projects at any one time, having a centralized channel for feedback streamlines communication and improves collaboration.

To get the most out of collaborating with designers, their years of formal training, and professional experience, employ the following when providing feedback.

Be specific

Instead of "I don't like this" or "Please change the background to blue", explain how/why a project is missing its objective

For example: "The design/look feels too dark and decadent, please update to feel lighter and healthier"

Use visual aids

Sharing screenshots or quick mockups may help designers more quickly grasp/understand your feedback.

Limit prescriptive feedback

Prescriptive feedback should be limited to instances where only one solution is available

For example: "Please update to reflect the primary brand color" or  "Per legal, please add a "™"

Provide a rational

Explain the reasoning behind your feedback and how it aligns with the project goals and target audience.

For example: "Research shows, consumers are more likely to choose better-for-you products when associated with visuals of lighter and healthier living".

Be open to other viewpoints

Designers have a variety of tools (color, scale, composition, contrast, tone, etc) they can employ to address concerns

Be efficient and consolidate

When multiple stakeholders are involved, providing consolidated feedback reduces time consuming rounds of revisions
